West Coast Journalism Conference

December 16, 2007  |  Ashley

Hello staff!

Happy winter break! I hope everyone's finals went well (or at least as well as they could) and you're all enjoying well-deserved time off.

On Saturday, January 26 2008 there is going to be a West Coast Youth Journalism Conference at UCLA. Hosted by Campus Progress, a powerful resource in today's progressive journalism world, it is a good opportunity for anybody who wants to or is thinking about pursuing work or a career in
the journalism field. The conference will host notable speakers and players from the journalism world, as well as give an opportunity to network with other journalists (apparently people from around the country attend this conference - who knew!)

Check out this link for the specific speakers and the agenda: click.

Thomas Coen, the Associate Publications Manager extended an invite to us to attend the conference, so I've made the decision to turn this into a "field trip" type of thing. It won't be mandatory since I know some of you are not looking into this field for a career, but for those who are thinking about it or want to, i strongly encourage you to come along.

If you are certain you want to and can go, RSVP right now (the link is on the webpage). I don't think there's a cap on how many can attend, but because the page says it is normally a capacity event I can't be sure. If you're not sure, go ahead and sit on it for awhile. If you know for sure you don't want to go, that's cool too.

When we come back from break, we'll discuss this more in the meetings and start figuring out carpools and who will be driving. The conference is
from 9:30am until 6pm, and it is preferable we stay the entire time, so please plan accordingly.

Happy Holidays!
Ashley

PS. If you have friends who would be interested, go ahead and invite them as well; if they're willing to get in on the carpooling and whatnot, we're definitely open to it =)
