10 Illuminating Destinations

1. The Roman Coliseum, Italy

Completed in 80 AD, this amphitheater is encapsulated with a history of gladiator competitions resulting in the death of several humans and 9,000 wild animals.


2. The house of Anne Frank, Amsterdam

With her writings on the wall of the house in which her family hid WWII, Anne Frank, a Holocaust victim, leaves behind an eye-opening experience.


3. The Griffith Observatory, US

A wonderful location for a view of the stars, it is one of the largest planetarium domes in the world, and offers a star projector that is the most advanced in the world and


4. The Alhambra, Spain

Both a palace and fortress for the Moorish monarchs of Granada. Once described by Moorish poets as a "pearl set in emeralds," The Alhambra is now a tourist attraction showcasing Islamic architecture and elaborate gardens.


5. Waimea Canyon, Hawaii

The largest canyon in the Pacific, Waimea Canyon measures 3,500 feet. Lush, green highlands contrast with the red hues of volcanic rock, creating stunning panoramic views that stretch for miles.


6. Tel Aviv's White Night Festival, Israel

The tradition began when Tel Aviv was named a World Cultural Heritage Sight. Every year, there is an array of nightlife activities, from beach-side dance parties to local shops and museums keeping their doors open through the night for a city-wide late night celebration.


7. Slovenia's Bonfire Night

Commemorating the Feast of the Assumption, Slovenia's Bonfire Night takes place on Lake Bohinj during the second week of August. Catch sight of the candle-lit floats and a spectacle of fireworks.


8. LUX Light Festival, Lithuania

Lithuania's marvelous light festival, hosted by scientists, artists, and children, occurs during the month of November - to defeat the darkness.


9. Diwali, Festival of Lights, England

A celebration of the Indian New Year, representing the good conquering evil, the streets of London are flooded with candlelight, music, and traditional Indian food.


10. The Chinese Lantern Festival, U.S.

Marking the end of the Chinese New Year celebrations, this festival is held in Hollywood Park during the months of October-November. A dazzling display of lanterns underneath the moon is accompanied by music, dancing, acrobats, and traditional Chinese food.
